Rapid prototyping
Prototype, test, revise — quickly
Prototyping is about learning fast. We print iterations of your design so you can test fit, ergonomics and mechanism behaviour, and can adjust the CAD between rounds if you need us to.
Who it's for
- Product teams validating a design before tooling
- Engineers checking fit against real components
- Inventors who need something physical to test or show
How it works
- 01
Define what you're testing
Form, fit, function or appearance — each points to different settings and materials.
- 02
Print the first iteration
We choose orientation and settings to answer your question, not just to look nice.
- 03
Test and give feedback
Tell us what worked and what didn't, with photos or measurements.
- 04
Iterate
Send a revised file, or ask us to make the CAD changes as a separately priced design task.
What to send us
- Your current CAD or STL
- What the prototype needs to prove
- Mating parts or key dimensions
- How many iterations you expect
Honest limits
- FDM prototypes are anisotropic — weaker between layers — so they may not match the strength of a moulded part
- Prototype parts aren't validated for safety-critical or certified use
- Tight tolerances may need a test print to dial in
Materials
PLA for quick visual and fit prototypes; PETG when the prototype needs to flex, take knocks or tolerate warmth. Compare materials.
Questions
How accurate are FDM prototypes?
Accuracy depends on geometry, size, material and orientation. For fit-critical features we recommend a small test print first. See our tolerances guide.
Can you change my design between iterations?
Yes, as a design task priced separately from printing, so you always know what you're paying for.
